Classroom of the Elite V18 : ch 1

Chapter 1 ○ In preparation for the Cultural Festival

It is Monday, November 1st, the beginning of autumn, and the weather is getting chilly.

The months go by quickly, and in two months it will be winter vacation. The scenery that I could see from my new seat will end in the not-so-distant future.

The fact that I feel regretful is proof that the seat change was a good thing for me. I don't know if there will be a seat change next year, but either way, I am sure that the scenery will be very different from before.

"Good morning. Everyone is here?"

A few seconds after the sound of the bell, Chabashira-sensei appeared in the classroom. The students, who had been engaged in chit-chat, quieted down and turned their eyes and ears to the teacher, who seemed to have gotten used to the situation. This school's unique system, which influences the evaluation of the entire class even outside of class, creates a serious attitude of discipline.

Not that anything has changed significantly from last week. But I can certainly sense that they have grown a lot. Seeing such a situation of students who continue to grow day by day, Chabashira sensei nodded deeply and opened her mouth.

“I think preparations for the festival are progressing steadily, but there are some additional explanations. First of all, I will display a summary of the festival as a review, so those of you who need to know should confirm it."

The monitor behind Chabashira-sensei lit up and the explanation of the rules reappeared.

Each sophomore class is given 5,000 private points per student to be used solely for preparation for the festival, and each class is allowed to use these points as they wish (5,500 points for first-year students and 4,500 points for third-year students as the initial cost).

Additional funds will be given for social contributions such as student council service, contributions through club activities, etc.

(Details will be announced again for each class after they are finalized.)

Initial fees and additional funds are not reflected in the final sales, and will be forfeited if unused.

·       1st to 4th place classes will receive 100 class points.

·       5th to 8th place classes will receive 50 class points.

·       There was no change in class points for the 9th to 12st place classes.

"That's all I've explained so far. I'm sure you've got this far in your head without any problems."

Without a word of question from the students, Chabashira-sensei continued his progress.

"I would like to announce that the details of the "additional funds" mentioned in this brief description have been finalized”

The additional funds will be used to increase the number of points available for the festival based on student council service, community service, club activities, etc. The time has come to announce the details.

Although it was inconvenient that the budget was not finalized, which made it difficult to determine the number, contents, and scale of the event, it was not a problem as long as all classes in all grades were subject to the same conditions.

"First of all, I'm going to show you the total amount of additional funds that will be given to this class, and then the breakdown all at once."

As soon as she said this, the tablet was operated and a spreadsheet list was displayed. It turns out that one person in total was eligible for this additional funding.

·       Suzune Horikita Student Council Member Bonus 10000 points

·       Ken Sudo Club activity bonus10000 points

·       Onodera Kayano Club activity bonus 10000 points

Only three students were able to receive the maximum 10000 points or that high amount of additional funds, but nine other students received hundreds or thousands of points for their contributions.

For example, Yosuke gets 3,000 points for the club activity activity bonus, and Akito gets 1,000 points. The names of students who seem to be mainly active in club activities are given in this class in large numbers. In total, this class received 39400 points in additional funds.

In terms of the number of people, it is equivalent to the initial points for about 6 people.

It can be said that this fund is indispensable for the operation of the school festival.

"I can't give you the complete details, but I can tell you that Sakayanagi Class A received 18,800 points, Ryuen Class C received 17,000 points, and Ichinose Class D received 26,600 points.

Ichinose's class has the most additional funds among second-year students."

Ichinose's class is in second place, and Sakayanagi's class is in third place, narrowly ahead of Ryuen's class

This is an unexpected result, but one factor may be the student council member bonus. The fact that both Horikita and Ichinose received 10,000 points for their presence alone is simply significant.

Other students such as Sudo and Onodera are considered to have made outstanding contributions in club activities throughout the entire school year.

Because individuals are not allowed to use any of their private points at the festival, the total number of class members plus additional funds for the Horikita class must be kept within 229400 points.

Even one point is more than enough. However, one should not become complacent based on this result alone. However, one should not become complacent based on this result alone.

Although it is an advantage in the preparatory stage before the start of the event, as long as the additional funds are not reflected in the final sales, they will be a treasure if they are not used well.

The above seems to be the explanation of additional funds, but it should not end there. Several pieces of information needed for the festival have not been disclosed.

"Now then. Next, I will tell you the details about the guests who are important for making sales."

How many guests will come to the festival, what kind of guests will come, and how much money they will have have have not been disclosed so far.

“Guests will include people who are involved in the operation of the school and their families. Naturally, there will be a wide range of ages, from the elderly to young children and elementary school students. It has also been decided that the people who normally work at the Keyaki Mall and convenience stores will also be invited as guests. "

The tablet screen changed to a graph, showing the number of guests by age.

The 30s and 40s were the most numerous, followed by those under 20 and those in their 50s.

" Each adult guest will receive 10,000 points, while minors will receive 5,000 points. There will be 283 adults and 202 minors, for a total of 485 participants, for a total of 38,400,000 points."

The ranking of the two classes for the entire school year depends on how much sales can be made from that total.

" Let me also remind you that the number of participants includes us, the teachers. Homeroom teachers are bound to not be able to use the points for the grade they are in charge of, but they are treated no differently from other guests."

The restriction on not being able to use them in the same grade would be essential. As a homeroom teacher, you would normally want to spend money on your class if you can.

"Is it possible to use more than 10000 points in pocket money?"

At Ike's question, Chabashira-sensei immediately shook her head left and right.

It was a premature question as usual, but she answered it without any particular attention.

Rather, she seemed to be enjoying the unchanging Ike.

"No. You can't spend more than the given points. The maximum amount is fixed."

The guests do not have unlimited funds available to them. It is not a matter of enclosing a certain number of distinguished guests and it is inevitable that scramble for guests and competition will occur.

“The school will use a system whereby sales are always monitored in real time via a dedicated cell phone app. Keep in mind that the app will be disabled the moment the festival ends at 4 p.m. The timing of the checkout can be set freely by each participant, but we recommend that payment be made in advance before the food is served.”

If payment is made after eating, there are cases where it goes past 4:00 pm.

I guess that means there's a risk that we won't be able to collect the points.

“At this point, if you have any questions, raise your hand.” A period of time was allowed for questions and remarks, and soon after, Horikita raised her hand.

“If the sales are the same, what would happen to the rank? It's pretty extreme, but what if all the classes got the same amount of 320,000 points and end up side by side?"

Since the total amount is neatly divisible, it is not impossible for such a case to occur.

While the odds of having all sales in all classes are astronomical if we rely on chance alone, collusion is not impossible. If all of them are treated as number one, they will all receive the same amount of class points. I thought some sort of countermeasure was being contemplated, but here we are.

“If the amount is the same, it will be treated as the same rank. If all 12 classes generate equal sales, as Horikita says, all classes will be ranked first and will receive 100 class points.”

Is the rule somewhat lax, given that you don't lose class points even if you lose?

No. Maybe they have assumed from the start that there will never be a large number of classes with the same number of points.

"However, the total amount of sales can only be confirmed after the exam is over, and manipulation of sales by a third party is not permitted at all. You can't have an arrangement like that to split the sales evenly after you're done. Do you know what this means? "

If the amount of sales cannot be manipulated after the fact, it is unlikely that all classes will be in first place side by side. tuna

The most important thing is that they are not likely to join hands in a friendly manner without losing a valuable opportunity to compete.

"Wouldn't it be normal for us to have the same amount? I don't think you need to worry about it." Maezono voices her doubts, unsure of the meaning of Horikita's question.

“As Maezono says, it's nothing to be concerned about if you are competing normally. However, it is not a bad thing to know if it is accepted as a rule or not.”

Horikita has a point. It's not a bad thing to know. As far as collusion is concerned, it is still unclear. it is possible for certain grades and classes to collude and create sales that are on par with each other.

There are several ways to do this, but it is not difficult to create a picture where all the products sold out = the same amount of money if the final sales amounts of all the products made in advance are aligned among the classes. However, it is necessary to be prepared for betrayal, unforeseen circumstances, and trouble. It would be no laughing matter if you prioritize selling out above all else and as a result, you end up in the bottom of the class in terms of sales. The hurdles to overcome in order to intentionally create a tie are far higher than we can imagine.

"Anyone else have questions?"

After that, no one particularly raised their hand regarding the culture festival.

" That's all I have to say about the festival. Next, I would like to announce the results of the mid-term examinations for the second semester. This time, there are students who achieved results that surprised even me.

The story progresses to the written exam and the announcement of the results.

The students, who are not good at study, screamed.

Depending on how you perceive it, "surprised" can have a bad thing. However, since Chabashira-sensei's expression isn't dark and stiff, it does not seem to be the case.

All at once, the names of the 38 students in the class are displayed, and they are lined up in order from the student with the highest overall score.

The only student who ranked first in the class was Keisei. He had a seamless performance, scoring high in all subjects.

In second place was Horikita, slightly behind Keisei. The difference in overall score was only 3 points, almost equal to that of Keisei.

The names of the honors students from there on out are always lined up, but the student whose results surprised Chabashira-sensei is surely the one who placed 11th. the student who came in at No. 11, Ken Sudo. He scored 73 points in Modern Japanese, 76 points in Chemistry, 70 points in Social Studies, 78 points in Mathematics, and 70 points in English.

He scored a well-balanced total of 367 points in all subjects. The top rankers from this point onward are the honor students such as Yosuke, Kushida, Matsushita, and Wang. That is why Sudo's ranking was a surprise to everyone.  It was a well-known fact that Sudo was studying hard, but it was unexpected that Sudo, who was also involved in club activities until late every day, would come in at the top of the list.

"Seriously, Ken is 11th place... amazing..."

The honest, or rather stunned, reaction from Ike, who was almost side by side with, or even above him at the start of the race. A crazy turnaround, a leap beyond imagination. The difficulty level of this test was moderate, and the difference in overall score from Sudo to the bottom 20 was only about 15 points, but even so, this result must have been a surprise to many.

I thought that the person himself would run around with joy, but he just made a small fist pose and didn't show off or make fun of others by overtaking them.

He operates his cell phone to check the latest OAA that has been updated. Ken Sudo Academic ability C+, physical ability A+, quick thinking ability C-, social contribution D-.

Overall, his physical abilities are outstanding while maintaining a near-average level. If he maintains his test scores, he should be able to achieve a B in academic achievement in the near future.

If he continues to improve his studies, he will be able to achieve an A or better in both academic and physical abilities. It seems that the efforts made over the past year are bearing fruit in a way that is beyond imagination. In his personal life, his problematic behavior has decreased, and his contribution to society, which was at the lowest level, has risen to a D-. I am one of the best in OAA's growth potential.

By the way,  My rank is 14th, which is lower than Sudo's.

I got a perfect score in mathematics, but I purposely avoided the rest of the subjects.

I could say that I cut corners, but in reality, I had a different goal in mind.

I knew that getting a perfect score on the second semester mid-term test would only cause unnecessary confusion.

It is many times more important to make students feel that they must grow and help the class as Sudo did, rather than reassure them of the existence of a student who can score high. In fact, Sudo's first place result has generated a wide range of emotions among his classmates.

Almost all of them can only be positive. While there are those who are in the top ranks, there are those who inevitably end up in the bottom.

These are, for lack of a better word, the regulars, but when compared to the average scores of the other classes, we can see that they are changing little by little.

More and more students are trying to improve, albeit at a low level, and it seems that they are steadily and gradually starting to show results. Of course, not all of them are as good as Sudo. Even when it comes to studying, there are differences in the amount of talent that can be absorbed, as well as differences in perseverance and physical strength. In Sudo's case, his motivation is also based on his love for Horikita, who teaches him how to study. Anyway, because of Airi's dropout, the competition to stay in the lower ranks had begun.
